It's official. The College has been informed by the Ministry of Health that its proposed regulation for the controlled act of psychotherapy has been approved. The regulation is now in place for occupational therapists to continue to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy.

The Ministry of Health posted on the regulatory registry the proposed regulation for performance of the controlled act of psychotherapy by occupational therapists.

The new regulation is made under the Occupational Therapy Act, 1991, to regulate the practice of occupational therapists when they perform the controlled act of psychotherapy.

From January 1, 2020, only physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, psychotherapists and social workers and social service workers who are authorized by their respective regulatory College will be able to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy.
