About the role

We are looking for a motivated & enthusiastic Accounting Summer Student to join our Corporate Services team! The successful candidate will provide (part-time) support to the Accounting department, participating in day-to-day finance functions and month-end duties.

This role reports to the Accounting & Payroll Specialist, and will be responsible for various accountabilities, including but not limited to those listed below.

What you will be doing

  • Supporting the Accounting department with general finance & bookkeeping functions including inputting and processing accounts payable and receivable into the College accounting system.
  • Processing cheques and invoices and conducting accurate bank reconciliations.
  • Preparing financial/expense reports and submitting payments for invoices (upon approval).
  • Completing general month-end/year end duties.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of all data entry and reports, communicating any data anomalies, patterns of inquiries and other relevant trends/patterns.
  • Accurately and promptly drafting routine correspondence and documentation for the program.
  • Providing support to committees, networks, working groups and task forces as required.
  • Completing specific projects assigned by the Accounting & Payroll Specialist, or the Director, on time and within budget.

What you will need

  • Current enrolment in a post-secondary program for Business, Accounting, Finance, and/or other related field(s).
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and organize work effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power point, Outlook).
  • Understanding of basic accounting and bookkeeping principles.
  • Great organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and know when to take initiative.
  • Flexible, positive and adaptable mentality – able to work in an evolving environment.

Compensation

The salary for this position is $17.20/hour.
