Pathway for Occupational Therapists Registered in Another Province
If you wish to start working as an occupational therapist in Ontario under As of Right legislation, you will need the following:
- Contact information and your physical location in Ontario.
- Information about your registration in a Canadian jurisdiction.
- You must have the equivalent of an Ontario General Practicing certificate of registration.
- Not been refused registration in another Canadian jurisdiction within the past two years.
- No findings of professional misconduct, incompetence, or incapacity.
- Not be the subject of any current professional misconduct, incompetence, or incapacity proceedings.
- Details about your professional liability insurance, applicable to practice in Ontario.
- Be physically present in Ontario to provide services to Ontario residents.
Applying under As of Right
To apply under As of Right, follow these steps:
- Complete all sections of the As of Right Attestation Form (English | French), ensuring all sections marked with an asterisk (*) are filled in.
- All fees are payable in Canadian funds and are subject to applicable taxes. Use your COTO application number (which we will provide after we receive your completed As of Right attestation form) as the account number.
- Please pay the $45.20 “As of Right” fee through your bank as an online payment by adding the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario as a payee name. Please note: We do not accept e-transfers.
- Email your completed form and proof of payment to registration@coto.org.
- You will receive email confirmation that you are authorized to practice in Ontario.
- Once you are ready to upload your documents, please login to the COTO Portal and complete your standard registration application for registrants of another province within six months.
Note: Once you are authorized by the College, you can start working.
Your authorization to practice will expire six months from the day you begin to provide occupational therapy services in Ontario if:
- you have not been issued a certification of registration, or
- your application is denied.
