Risk Management

The Board received the Risk Management Report and the updated Risk Register. Managing risks is a key responsibility of the College as it works to regulate the profession of occupational therapy in the public interest. Ensuring the College understands the risks it faces, the plans in place to control, mitigate, avoid, or transfer these risks appropriately is an important oversight responsibility of the Board.

Registration Fee Increase

The Board approved the proposed 2% increase to Registration fees for the upcoming 2026/2027

annual renewal period.  The proposed increase is a planned and necessary measure to strengthen revenues, build reserves, retain staff, and ensure COTO remains financially resilient and capable of meeting its statutory obligations and strategic priorities/projects. A schedule of updated fees for the 2026/2027 registration year is available online.

I&R Resolution Program Policy

The Board reviewed and approved the Resolution Program Policy. The policy permits the College to resolve select lower risk complaints using a Resolution Program as an alternative to a formal investigation. With consent of both the complainant and the occupational therapist, eligible complaints will be addressed faster.

Details about the policy are available online.

Health Human Resources

Occupational therapy workforce data from the current Canadian Institute of Health Information’s report was reviewed with the Board. Following the presentation, the Board engaged in exploratory conversations about health human resource planning and opportunities.

Request for Second Provisional Certificate Policy

The Board approved adjustments to the Request for Second Provisional Certificate Policy to align with the national policy.  The policy outlines the requirements for applicants seeking to maintain provisional registration following an unsuccessful attempt at the National Occupational Therapy Certification Exam (NOTCE) and describes the process for requesting a second provisional certificate of registration, when applicable.
