It’s that time of year again—annual renewal is just around the corner.
Renewal opens on April 1, 2026. You can complete your renewal by logging in to the COTO Portal. We encourage you to renew early and not wait until the May 31st deadline.
What’s new this year?
You spoke, and we listened! Based on your feedback from last year’s survey, we’ve made the renewal process a little easier.
Employment Section Updates
Your employment information from last year will now be pre-filled. You can review and make any updates if needed. If nothing has changed, simply review the details, confirm they’re accurate, and move on to the next section.
Weekly Practice Hours Updates
The total calculation in the Weekly Practice Hours section on the Employment Status page now calculates percentage hours based on your input. You cannot proceed if the total is less than 100%. Any totals under 100% are highlighted in red for clarity.
Renewal Fees
The renewal fees for 2026 are:
$113 – Late payment fee
$788.63 – Certificate of Registration
Questions about College fees? See our page on Understanding College Fees.

What happens if you don’t renew or resign by the deadline?

Taking a Leave or Resigning
If you will not be practicing as an occupational therapist or using the title occupational therapist (OT) in Ontario after May 31, you may choose to resign your registration.
To resign, log in to the COTO Portal and complete the resignation form.
Keep in mind:
- If you resign, you cannot practice as an occupational therapist or use the title occupational therapist, OT, or OT Reg. (Ont.) in Ontario until you are re-registered with the College.
- If you remain registered while on leave, you must still:
- Maintain professional liability insurance
- Complete Quality Assurance requirements
- Meet all other professional obligations
