The Association of Canadian Occupational Therapy Regulatory Organizations (ACOTRO) has embarked on a three-year project to enhance the Substantial Equivalency Assessment System (SEAS).
SEAS conducts the foreign credential recognition process for internationally educated occupational therapists (IEOTs) who wish to work in Canada and plays a critical role in supporting workforce entry and ensuring practice readiness across the country.
Learn more about the SEAS initiative.
ACOTRO is currently seeking employer input to ensure that SEAS enhancements reflect real-world practice expectations, workforce needs, and employer experiences with IEOT readiness and integration.
If you are an employer of occupational therapists, including managers, clinical leaders, clinician mentors, or HR professionals who have hired or supervised IEOTs, your insights are important to help inform the SEAS enhancement project.
Employers who express interest may be invited to participate in activities such as:
- Focus groups or interviewsÂ
- Surveys or targeted consultations
If you are interested, please fill out this form by Friday, March 20th, 2026 and include:
- Your role (e.g., manager, clinical lead, clinician mentor, HR, etc.)
- Your name and contact information
- Province or territory of practice
- Practice setting (e.g., hospital, community, private practice, etc.)
- Practice area (e.g., pediatrics, adults, geriatrics, mental health, etc.)
Participation is voluntary, and all information collected will be used solely for the SEAS enhancement project. Participants will be selected to ensure representation across jurisdictions and practice settings. Please note that ACOTRO may not be able to accommodate all expressions of interest.
If you have any questions about this request, please contact Farshad Bagheri at seas.pm@acotro.org.
