College Council nominations in Districts 2 and 4 closed on January 29, 2020. Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's elections.
The College welcomes back Carol Mieras to Council. Carol was nominated unopposed in District 4 (Ottawa, Kingston, and surrounding areas), and therefore will be acclaimed as the successful nominee.
- Carol previously served on Council as President and as chair of several committees. She has extensive experience as an occupational therapist working in forensic mental health, community mental health, academic teaching and research. Currently, Carol is the project manager of a grant at Queen’s University working together with the University of Gondar to establish the first school of occupational therapy in Ethiopia.
- Carol will begin her three-year term on Council in March 2020.
Congratulations to Julie Entwistle and Jennifer Henderson who will be staying on Council for another term. Julie and Jennifer ran unopposed in District 2 (Hamilton, Niagara, Waterloo and surrounding areas) and therefore will also be acclaimed as the successful nominees. Julie and Jennifer will also begin their next three-year terms in March.
- Julie currently serves on Council as President. She has 20 years of experience in clinical practice, 15 years in business and a Master of Business from Wilfrid Laurier University. In addition to running her private practice, she is currently in the Chartered Director program at the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University.
- Jennifer is a current Council member and is an Interprofessional Education Specialist at Hamilton Health Sciences. She was previously the Chief of Occupational Therapy Practice and has experience working as an occupational therapist in mental health, acute orthopedics, cardiology, geriatrics, burns, trauma and medicine.
We will say a fond farewell to Patrick Hurteau, who made tremendous contributions to our public protection mandate during his term. Patrick has been on Council since March 30, 2017. He served on the Patient Relations Committee and chaired the Fitness to Practise Committee from 2019 to 2020. It has been a pleasure to have him at the Council table and we will wish him well at our next Council meeting.
The Council sets the strategy for the College and makes decisions to ensure the public receives ethical, competent care from occupational therapists in Ontario. Members of the Council represent the public interest in decision-making. The Council is made up of members of the occupational therapy profession and members of the public who are appointed by the Ontario government.
