National Exam Information

National Exam Information

The approved exam is the National Occupational Therapy Certification Examination (NOTCE or ‘the exam’) which is administered by the Canadian Association of Occupation Therapists (CAOT).

Please visit the CAOT’s NOTCE website at notce-enae.ca for full details on the NOTCE. We recommend reviewing all exam policies and resources to ensure you are prepared to write the NOTCE.

Exam Dates

The NOTCE is held three times a year.

Exam registration dates and deadlines are posted on notce-enae.ca/information

Attempts

NOTCE candidates have a maximum of three attempts to pass the exam. After three attempts, candidates will no longer be eligible to write the NOTCE. Candidates may be granted additional attempts upon completing a new entry to practice occupational therapy program approved by the College. Please view the CAOT’s NOTCE Rewrite policy for more information.

If you are a provisional registrant, there are limitations on the number of times you can write the exam while registered. Please view the College’s Provisional Registration page for more details.

Cost to Attempt the Exam

$755 + HST.

Study Resources

CAOT has created the following study resources: NOTCE Resource Manual, NOTCE Study Guide and Practice Exam, and the NOTCE Online Prep Class. Visit notce-enae.ca/resources to learn more.

Accommodation

If you require accommodation when writing the NOTCE, contact CAOT staff directly at [email protected]. Please view the CAOT’s NOTCE Testing Accommodations policy for more information.

Appeals

If you think that there were issues that affected your exam performance, you must submit an appeal to CAOT within 14 days after the exam day. The appeal fee is $50 + HST. Please view the CAOT’s NOTCE Appeals policy for more information. If an appeal is granted, you must notify the College and provide the appropriate documentation.

You cannot appeal your exam results after they have been issued. If you wish to have a manual scoring review, you may request this service from CAOT. The re-score fee is $65 + HST.
