Consultation on the Revised Draft Standards for Acupuncture

The College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario would like to hear your feedback on proposed changes to our Standards for Acupuncture.

Acupuncture is a procedure performed on tissue below the dermis and is considered a controlled act. Occupational therapists can perform acupuncture through an exemption in the legislation. The Standards for Acupuncture outline the minimum expectations for performing acupuncture safely within the occupational therapy scope of practice.

What’s new in the draft revised Standards for Acupuncture:

  • Updated language and terminology;
  • Updated performance indicators;
  • Clearer definition for controlled acts;
  • Additional clarity around expectations for competence.

This consultation is an opportunity for occupational therapists, the public and other interested stakeholders to provide feedback on the proposed changes.

We want to hear from you.

The consultation survey is available in English and French.

The consultation should take 10-15 minutes to complete.
