Preparing for Reopening

On May 12, the Government of Ontario extended the Declaration of Emergency to June 2, 2020.

On May 14, the Government announced Ontario's first stage of reopening the economy will begin on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at 12:01 a.m. and will include:

Allowing certain health and medical services to resume, such as in-person counselling and scheduled surgeries based on the ability to meet pre-specified conditions as outlined in A Measured Approach to Planning for Surgeries and Procedures During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The complete list of Phase 1 openings is available online.

We understand you may have questions about this announcement and we are currently seeking clarification. The College is also working with the government and other regulators to develop guidance for occupational therapists’ safe return to practice. The guidance will address considerations for varying practice settings/environments and include considerations such as pre-appointment screening and infection prevention and control.

As information becomes available, the College will continue provide updates on the COVID-19 page on our website and by email. In the interim, we recommend occupational therapists continue to follow orders from the Premier of Ontario, the Ministry of Health, and Public Health guidance.
