It’s in the public interest to make sure that occupational therapists (OTs) are practicing safely and competently – and to take action if that does not happen.

The College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario ensures that all members of this profession follow the same rules. The College holds the profession accountable for its conduct by:

• having a process to handle complaints
• sending cases to Committee to determine if discipline or fitness to practise assessment is needed
• having OTs meet the duty to report possible child abuse or neglect
• having OTs and their employers file mandatory reports, in cases of possible professional misconduct, incompetence, incapacity or sexual abuse
• requiring OTs to self-report charges, convictions, findings and other information that may be relevant to their suitability to practise
