January 25, 2018 Council Highlights

College Values

College values were discussed to ensure alignment with the 2020 Vision and the College mission and mandate. A Working Group was struck to refine proposed revisions, which will be brought back to Council in March 2018. Learn about the College’s 2020 Vision.

Proposed Bylaw Amendments Approved for Circulation

Council reviewed and approved circulation of proposed amendments to the bylaws, which are required to ensure consistency with legislative changes. Although the proposed revisions are already in effect due to changes to the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA), the RHPA requires the College to circulate the proposed bylaw amendments to registrants. The bylaw consultation will open in March 2018. Details about the specifics of the proposed revisions including specific changes to the RHPA giving rise to their proposal will be included in the consultation.

Bylaw Amendments Approved

Council reviewed and approved minor changes to the bylaws. Amendments support the use of consistent language throughout the bylaws. All references to the formerly used phrase "that relates to the Registrant's practice of occupational therapy" in sections 5.03.1(i)(iii), 6.01.3(h)(iii), and 12.01.1(i)(iii), changed to the phrase "relevant to the Registrant's suitability to practise occupational therapy" which is already used in Part 17 of the bylaws. Current bylaws are available online.

Draft Standards for Supervision of Students

Council approved the draft Standards for Supervision of Students for stakeholder consultation, which will begin in spring 2018. The current Standards for Supervision of Students remain in effect and are available online under Standards & Resources.

Draft Standards for Psychotherapy

Council approved the draft Standards for Psychotherapy for stakeholder consultation, which will begin in February 2018. The current Standards for Psychotherapy remain in effect and are available online under Standards & Resources.

Quality Assurance (QA) Research

Results of the Quality Assurance Competency Review and Evaluation (CRE) Process were presented by Research Consultant Dorothy Luong, Deputy Registrar Kara Ronald, and Quality Programs Manager Seema Sindwani. Results will inform next steps of program development. Learn more about the College QA program.
